Methodist Mansfield earns 'A' Grade for patient safety in Leapfrog's Fall 2016

Mansfield – Methodist Mansfield Medical Center is proud to announce it received the highest rating possible by the independent hospital watchdog The Leapfrog Group. The Hospital Safety Score is the gold standard rating for patient safety, compiled under the guidance of the nation’s leading patient safety experts and administered by The Leapfrog Group, a national, independent nonprofit organization committed to driving quality, safety, and transparency in the U.S. health system. The first and only hospital safety rating to be peer-reviewed in the Journal of Patient Safety, the Hospital Safety Score is free to the public and designed to give consumers information they can use to protect themselves and their families when facing a hospital stay.

“Methodist Mansfield’s A grade is a powerful reminder of our commitment to saving and improving lives,” says Methodist Mansfield president John Phillips, FACHE. “Our families, neighbors, colleagues and friends deserve a hospital that puts safety and patient care above all else. We continue to institute initiatives to decrease infection rates and improve surgical outcomes, and are pleased to be recognized one of the safest hospitals in the United States.”

“Protecting patients from harm is the most important charge for any hospital,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We recognize and appreciate ‘A’ hospitals’ vigilance and continued dedication to keeping their patients safe.”

The Hospital Safety Score uses 30 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a single A, B, C, D or F score, representing a hospital’s overall capacity to keep patients safe from preventable harm. More than 2,600 U.S. general hospitals were assigned scores in October 2016, with 844 hospitals receiving an A grade.
