Treatments

Sophisticated, compassionate cancer treatment

Cancer treatment can vary drastically from patient to patient. While some are better off with surgery, others may benefit more from chemotherapy. The knowledgeable oncologists at Methodist Dallas Medical Center will walk you through every step of your cancer care treatment and help you determine the best course of action.

Cancer Surgery

We offer inpatient cancer surgery and day surgery to accommodate simple and complex procedures, and provide integrated, ongoing care throughout all stages of cancer recovery.

Our facility is equipped with three da Vinci® Surgical Systems— a robot-assisted, minimally invasive surgical device capable of performing the following:

  • Gynecologic Surgery
  • Ovarian Cancer
  • Head and Neck Cancer
  • Liver Cancer
  • Prostatectomy
    • Prostate cancer
  • Thoracic surgery
    • Lung Cancer
  • Transoral robotic surgery (TORS)
    • Oral Cancer
    • Tongue Cancer
    • Throat Cancer
    • Larynx Cancer

Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy uses carefully balanced doses of medication to damage or kill cancer cells while damaging as few healthy cells as possible. Chemotherapy treatments are administered and overseen by specialized physicians, nurses, and pharmacists. We use surgical insertion of tubing for IV delivery of chemotherapy which eliminates the need to find a vein each time chemotherapy is administered.

Radiation Therapy for Breast Cancer

Traditional whole breast radiation therapy, a process that precisely sends high levels of radiation directly to the cancer cells or the operative bed. This can be done after surgery (as in breast cancer), which can be done prior to surgery to shrink the tumor, in combination with chemotherapy, or as a palliative treatment to relieves symptoms.

  • Image Guided Radiation Therapy
  • Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRT)
  • Stereotactic Body Radiosurgery Therapy (SBRT)

SAVITM

SAVI is a five-day radiation treatment after lumpectomy for breast cancer that delivers radiation from within the breast. The SAVI applicator consists of an expandable bundle of tubes, each of which can deliver a different dose of precisely targeted radiation. Because SAVI offers so much more flexibility in the strength of the dosage, a larger group of women can benefit from it. SAVI is an appropriate option for women with early-stage breast cancer. If the SAVI applicator is right for you, the reduction in treatment time from several weeks to five days can be a benefit in helping you return to your normal life sooner.

Methodist Dallas Medical Center was the first hospital in Texas to offer the advanced radiation therapy SAVITM and is one of only 12 facilities in the greater Dallas – Fort Worth area named as Centers of Excellence in accelerated partial breast irradiation for their use of SAVI.
